Tianhua Institute Facilitates PTA Capacity Expansion of Russia''s Largest Petrochemicals Company

Polief, a subsidiary of Sibur in Russia, held the completion ceremony for its 325 K TPA purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant capacity expansion project not long ago. Rady Habirov, Head of the Republic of Bashkortostan, Pavel Sorokin, Russian Deputy Energy Minister, and Dmitry Konov, Chairman of the Board of Directors in Sibur, attended the ceremony. As an excellent supplier, Tianhua Institute of Chemical Machinery & Automation (Tianhua Institute) was invited to witness the important moments together with other suppliers from such countries as Germany and the UK.

Founded in 1995, Sibur is the largest oil and gas chemical company in Russia and a leader of the petrochemical field in Eastern Europe. Its scope of business involves the whole petrochemical treatment industry chain, covering associated petroleum gas processing, production of monomers, plastics, rubber, mineral fertilizer, tires and mechanical rubber goods, and plastic processing. Polief is a factory specialized in PTA and PET production under the management of Sibur. It is the only PTA manufacturer in Russia.

The completed capacity expansion project increases the capacity of PTA plant from 275 K TPA to 325 K TPA. Tianhua Institute has supplied two Φ2400×14470mmL CTA dryers and two Φ2800×20500mmL PTA dryers, as core equipment of the project.

Unlike other projects, this project posed a new challenge to Tianhua Institute. It was the first time that Tianhua Institute exported its dryers to Russia. The design, manufacture and inspection need meet local regulations and standards. The equipment need obtain the Customs Union Certification; the material selection and design of electric instruments and lubrication systems for equipment used in extremely cold areas need be taken into special consideration; additionally, as it is a reconstruction project, field installation dimensions and space and other complicated problems need be considered during design. Tianhua Institute organized related personnel to overcome a number of difficulties including the difficult design, complicated standards and specifications and short period of equipment supply, and satisfied Polief ultimately.
