BRDI Facilitates Building of Yangsigang Yangtze River Bridge with Special Purpose Rubber Products

The Yangsigang Yangtze River Bridge in Wuhan, which attracted a lot of attention, was completed and officially opened to traffic on October 8, 2019. Yangsigang Yangtze River Bridge, with the full length of 4.13 kilometers and main span of 1,700 meters, is the double-deck suspension bridge with the longest span in the world. It is the tenth Yangtze River Bridge built in Wuhan.

The stunning appearance of Yangsigang Yangtze River Bridge benefits from its yellow main suspension cables to a certain degree. The cables are wrapped by high-performance, long-life special purpose composite rubber elastomers developed by Beijing Research & Design Institute of Rubber Industry (BRDI). The elastomers wrapping the main suspension cables can protect the main cables from corrosion, so as to prolong their service life and reduce the cost of later maintenance.

The main cable coating anti-corrosion technology developed by BRDI with proprietary intellectual property rights has reached the international advanced level after verification of experts. Featuring a variety of specifications and models, the series of products can meet dynamic mechanical property requirements and application requirements for color fastness and aesthetics of main cables for various suspension bridges. These products are suitable for main cables of suspension bridges with different diameters, boasting good elastic adaptability, excellent ageing resistance and long service life of more than 25 years.
