    Syngenta Group’s first “zero-carbon” R&D center in China recognized

    Syngenta Group’s Beijing Innovation Center (BIC) was certified by Beijing Green Exchange?recently, making?it the?first “zero-carbon” R&D center in Syngenta Group?China. This recognition marks another breakthrough in combining agricultural technology innovation with sustainable development, injecting fresh momentum into the green and low-carbon transformation of agriculture.

    As one of Syngenta Group’s two global biotechnology R&D centers, the BIC undertakes seed innovation research and development. It is equipped with 10,000 square meters of modern greenhouses and 1,500 square meters of growth chambers, among other fundamental research facilities. In 2024, as its research projects continued to expand, the BIC generated a total of 5,904 tonnes?of CO?-equivalent emissions from both direct and indirect sources.

    Guided by the concept of “Sustainable Operations,” the BIC has vigorously?promoted energy conservation and emissions reduction. On the one hand, it has focused on product innovation, leveraging?cutting-edge technologies to develop agricultural solutions and crop varieties that adapt to climate change and reduce carbon emissions at the source of agricultural production. On the other hand, it has strengthened refined management of infrastructure operations by creating low-carbon, eco-friendly smart buildings and optimizing energy use in research equipment, continuously lowering the carbon footprint of its core research facilities, including greenhouses and growth chambers. Through the systematic implementation of technical energy-saving and emissions-reduction measures, together with carbon credit offsets, the BIC successfully achieved net-zero carbon emissions in 2024.
